Remington Farmers Market

The Town of Remington, Indiana was founded in the spring of 1860 and was a small farming community known at that time as Carpenter Station or Carpenter, after Carpenter's Creek. The name was later changed to Remington, perhaps the name of a local store owner. The railway was completed and known as the Logansport, Peoria & Burlington Railway. The depot was constructed in the fall of 1859, built 100 feet west of the crossing at Ohio Street. The depot was a small building, with 2 small rooms and a platform that was 100 feet long. Trains began running in January, 1860. On September 6, 1869 the town held their first meeting to elect a board of trustees. Situated just 90 miles southeast of Chicago and 90 miles northwest of Indianapolis, Remington is host to many local businesses and community organizations. Interstate 65 is just two miles to the east, and U.S. Rt 24 and U.S. Rt 231 pass through town. Remington boasts many homes and landmarks of historic note, with many types of architecture represented. Remington is in Carpenter Township, in Jasper County, Indiana. Population/census stats: Population of Remington in 2000 was 1323.
