Castine Farmers' Market
The Castine Famers’ Market opened in 2009 in response to a growing demand for local produce, accessible in town. Castine, a historic and beautiful village on the coast of Maine, is surrounded by communities full of small, diversified farms, and residents wanted a way to help them market their fresh produce, pasture-raised meats, and foods prepared in small batches. Of course, as a benefit, the residents of Castine would be able to shop for fresh, local foods right in their own backyard. Originally a project of the Healthy Peninsula-sponsored Friends and Neighbors group in Castine, the project quickly developed it’s own steering committee and work to recreate a market that had come and gone in Castine in the past, began.
