Athol Farmers Market
The Athol Winter Farmers Market begins Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to noon, when a number of local farmers and artisans will set up in the town hall to offer shoppers the fruits of the late harvest season and beyond. Shoppers will find storage vegetables like potatoes, onions, squashes, and pumpkins, along with a few late season surprises. As always, a variety of other local farm produce will be available, including cheese, eggs, pastured beef and pork, along with fresh baked goods, preserves, flour and grain products, maple syrup, and honey. In addition to the foods and farm products, the market will feature a selection of local handcrafted artisan goods, including hand knit and sewn items, and household needs like soaps and laundry products. Shoppers may also choose to have a hot cup of coffee and a freshly baked treat while they browse. "We are excited to kick off our winter season," says Carol Fairbank, who manages the Athol Farmers Market. "As the temperature drops, we'll be offering all the hearty ingredients to make the comfort foods we associate with fall and winter here in New England." The Athol Winter Farmers Market accepts SNAP (EBT) benefits, and due to a storm extension provided by the state, will also accept WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons at this Saturday's market. The winter market will be held on the first Saturday of each month during the winter.
