Montana is actually derived from the spanish word for mountains. Montana is a place brimming with history. Custers last stand or the battle of Little Bighorn took place in 1876 and is surely one of not the most famous battles in American history. The state is stilll home to many indigenous tribes. It is a state rich in mining deposits but probably most famous nowadays for the views to be found in the 2 National Parks – Yellowstone and the Glacier National Park. People come from all four corners of the world to admire these 2 areas. The views here are some of the most admired views in all of the world! After all, it is not called Big Sky country for nothing, the views are nothing short of staggering. Inhabited by famous rivers, the plains themselves and even glaciers passing on through Montana is called the treasure state. Thats due largely to the mineral deposits found there. As it is mostly farmed land Montana is very lightly populated. That means that although it is one of the largest states, (fourth behind Texas, Alaska and California)as it is one of the least populated, you can come here to stay and if you like you dont really have to bump into hordes of people, there is so much free space you can be all alone if you desire. With just around 1 million inhabitants (6 per square mile!) it is one of the most unspoilt places in the USA or even the world today. Tourism is the biggest industry, with millions of visitors from all over the world flocking to see its natural beauty. The indigenous tribes still make up a noticable percentage of inhabitants but by far the majority are of european descent, many from mining backgrounds who came to exploit the natural resources to be found here in the late 18th century. Although gold was the primary reason behind thsoe early visitors, todays visitors are entranced by the awe inspring views, the pure natural state the area is in. Montana really is one of the wonders of the world, when you come and visit you ll see what we mea
