Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market
The market provides to the community of Des Moines and surrounding areas a bountiful variety of vegetables, fruit, honey, cheeses, crafts, flowers, meat and fish, ready to eat foods, education, information and entertainment. Since its inception, the market has been successful and has become a gathering place and a positive asset to the City of Des Moines. The market is home to vendors that accept Senior and Women, Infant and Children (WIC) vouchers for fresh fruit and vegetables, contributing to overall health benefits to the population most at risk. Also accepted at the market is the EBT (food stamps) Program. The sponsorship and community booths provide a way for local and regional organizations to fund raise and get their message out to the public. The market is governed by a volunteer board of directors made up of nine local citizens whose goal is to make sure the market is viable and stays on a sound financial base.
