Grow, Sell & Eat Local!

The Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance (NFMA) is a community-based, non-profit organization which operates seven farmer/food only markets in Seattle neighborhoods. The NFMA's mission is to support and strengthen Washington’s small farms and farming families. We do this by providing effective direct sales sites for our region’s small farmers, and by educating consumers about local farm products and the importance of supporting and preserving local farmland. The NFMA is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation with the State of Washington and the federal government. Our first market was an all-volunteer effort: the University District Farmers Market, which in its first year comprised 17 farmers. At the first annual meeting of vendors, it was unanimously agreed that this market should focus on farms and food, and its mission should be to promote and support local agriculture. Today, a board of twelve directors governs the NFMA; four of these members are market farmers elected by market vendors at the annual vendor meeting. Other board members represent Seattle neighborhoods where the Markets take place, or are citywide representatives who support the goals of the NFMA.
