Grow, Sell & Eat Local!

Since it’s founding in the 1980s, the Center has remained true to its mission, staying attuned to rural realities. The organization offers hope to farm families in changing and challenging times through prayer and celebration, action and reflection, education and advocacy. Churches’ Center for Land and People was started by the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters during the deepening economic struggle of the farming community in the 1980s. Farm families, rural communities, churches and other organizations were all being affected. Sponsoring churches and faith communities from eight denominations have supported the Center’s mission including Catholic, Episcopal, Lutheran, Mennonite, Presbyterian, United Church of Christ, United Methodists, and Unitarian faith communities. More recently, grants have provided additional funding support for expanded programming. As we move forward in revitalizing Churches’ Center for Land and People, we welcome participation from those who have a passion to strengthen rural life to serve on our board of directors or assist with program planning. We are currently seeking individuals with interests or experience in: promoting rural/urban connections local food production/marketing accounting and administration for non-profit organizations public relations rural church connections
