Riverwest Gardeners Market
The Riverwest Gardeners Market has been operating each summer since 1993. Our dedicated group of local farmers has kept the market going over the years, as different people and organizations have provided management in one form or another, in particular, neighbors Tess Reiss and Vince Bushell have put a lot of time into the market and the park and continue to promote it as a vital neighborhood resource. We are also thankful to Nathan Moomaw, market manager for the past two seasons, who set up the FoodShare program before passing the torch to a committee of neighbors which is organizing the market along with two market managers, Sarah Neilsen and Tracy Hrajnoha. Sarah has lived in Riverwest for three years and began working with the market in 2011. She got involved with the market to order to increase food accessibility and security in her neighborhood. Tracy’s interests in community education and urban farming brought her to the Riverwest neighborhood 3 years ago. This is Tracy’s first year as co-manager for the market and she is looking forward to a beautiful season at Garden Park. Our hope is that we can continue to use this market to make direct connections with the people who grow our food for us, as well as with the environments which make that growth possible. Strong community-based food systems are critical components of a more sustainable and socially just future. We look forward to seeing you at the market!
